In almost all sporting events, there are certain personalities that really standout and as such they don’t escape media attention and hype. In due time, they are flaunted as ‘darling of media’ (DOM).
In her time, our very own Ms. Akiko Thompson (Filipina swimmer), was always a ‘darling of media’. With good looks and body shape (not necessarily being top caliber athlete) one can readily become media’s darling.
The London Olympics 2012 is not lacking of personalities that add color and fame to the event. Consider royalty, rock and raucous personalities as in James Bond, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, London Orchestra, Paul McCartney of the immortal Beatles, and Mr. Bean (who blended his comedy in the keyboard) to name a few.
Now, to be more specific, one such surefire ‘darling of the media’ is Paraguay’s Ms. Leryn Franco. Yeah, she was already feasted upon by the media in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. And she’s not even in the top 20 in her own event (javelin throw) but like I said, she’s got good looks and body shape.
In fact, she’s already one of those top earner endorsers of Nike sports items, and probably, she’s already in the ranks of Maria Sharapova and Novak Djokovich. Probably it was Nike which brought the two together (Leryn and Novak) in a short-lived romance. But, unfortunately maybe, their schedules and travel destinations may not have allowed that romance to flourish for longer than expected.
Anyway, for Leryn Franco, she will surely stay in the limelight for as long as she is capable of being an athlete.
