“Beginning. Hello, 2014. And hello and happy new year to our readers, old and new. This week’s theme might be obvious, but I couldn’t help it — it’s a simple and common word, yet can evoke very powerful, emotional images.” -Cheri Lucas Rowlands
The beginning. There is nothing that portrays the beginning of a new day better than a sunrise. And what would you imagine if the sun rises behind majestic Mt. Apo- the highest peak (9,698 ft. above sea level) in the Philippines? It can only signal the beginning of a grand new day!
Mt. Apo is located in the boundary of the provinces of Davao and North Cotabato (Philippines), my home province.
Here below, I am privileged to show you how the different angles of the sun, from sunrise to the zenith of day, could produce varying images of Mt. Apo in terms of its color, hue, and contrast.
The thick fog shows off more densely just before the first few rays of the sun burst out from the eastern horizon.
A closer look show how majestic Mt. Apo becomes an imposing figure from the east (reckoned from where we live).
As the rays of the sun find their way through the clouds and thick fog Mt. Apo appears more navy blue-like that distinctly outlines it from blue sky background.
As the sun climbs up into the horizon Mt. Apo appears more and more like its natural beauty and color.
At mid-day the summit is seen more clearly than any part of the day. It’s so clear that the white volcanic rocks and water gulleys are very visible from a distance.
Oh, sunrise and Mt. Apo. You always make my day. You are some of the reasons that make me confident in facing the grand new day and the beginning of the new year.
