Weekly Photo Challenge: The Sign Says

Signs. Funny, poignant, symbolic, incorrect, informative, foreshadowing…there are so many signs in the world.

Yes. This week’s photo challenge prompts us with what the sign says and here is what I got for my entry.

It was the debut (18th birthday) of one of our nieces on May 29, 2013 and we were obliged to be in the prescribed attire for the occasion – top hats and vests.

We were just as excited as the other guests to don the attire as the last time we’ve been into it was in high school drama days and probably you know what I mean. In high school, we hold monthly convocations where every year level was required to present stage plays which we simply call ‘drama’. And as we all know, the attire or ‘costume’ is so important as it makes the play more realistic and meaningful.

As we entered the venue (Apo View Hotel, Davao City), we passed by the photo booth and joined the long queue of guests waiting for their turn to face the camera. We were told that the camera would make three successive clicks at 15 minutes interval so we have to prepare the signs that we use as props.

We choose these signs that we think would best describe us: “I Love Mom; He Loves Me”; “Perfect Combination”; and “I’m Cute”.

We came in four pairs: my wife and me, our three children with their spouses and their children ( one each).

To make our costume more unique and probably more exciting we agreed to be a little bit different from each other. Thus, me and my wife wore something that resembled green (from head down to shoes), family of the eldest in red, the next one in blue and the youngest in black and white.

We felt we were so much a part of the occasion with our respective attire.

I love the ambiance of the place. It was so fit for the debut of our niece. The entire production numbers were so masterfully arranged and timed. I may not describe them in detail but our Lady Governor who attended with her 16-year old daughter quipped: “Two years from now, I want my daughter’s debut to be exactly like this”.

I want my grand-daughters debut too, 18 years from now, to be more like it. I have all the time to save money for the occasion 🙂
